Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

Ever since the inception of the department of MECHANICAL engineering during 2012-2013.The mission of the department has been to provide sound technical knowledge and research facilities to students. The department has been keeping abreast of the latest advancement by providing sophisticated modern equipments in various laboratories and training the students in the latest technologies in the field of mechanical engineering.

The department offers the four year B.E degree course in mechanical engineering. The Syllabus and course structure are as per the guidelines of Anna University. The course was approved by AICTE with an intake of 60 students in 2012 with affiliation under Anna University.

Department of mechanical engineering has a band of well qualified faculty, technical supporting staff. It has an adequate A/C class room and laboratory facilities for importing high quality education to our students by utilizing modern technical teaching aids like LCD projectors, NPTEL videos and some models were used as teaching aids, Which will make our students as an creater of future engineer.

Engineering Practices Lab

Engineering Practices Laboratory aims to provide exposure to the students with - hands - on experience on various basic engineering practices in Lathe, Carpentering, Sheet metal Work, Welding and Plumbing.

FLUID MECHANICS AND MACHINERY LAB

To promote our students with an sound knowledge of fluid and it’s importance, our college has provided an well equipped laboratory facility,as per the university norms.

The laboratory provided fruitful Machineries, with an knowledge of learning fluid flow using orifice and venturimeter. To identify how the fluid behaves during motion of piston in pump, use have centrifugal and reciprocating pump, gear oil pump, and to calibrate friction produced by the fluid, can be experimented with an help of pipe friction equipment.

Machines Lab

Our VCE workshop is well equipped with all machines and it is provided with high precision “CITIZEN” centre lathes. The special machines shop has Gear Hobbing machine, Shaping machine, Cylindrical grinding, Surface grinding machine, Planner machine, apart from conventional vertical, Horizontal milling machine, Radial drilling, Sensitive drilling, Slotting machine, Capstan lathe and Tool cutter grinding machine. This lab is well equipped to offer an excellent practical training to the students.

CAD/ CAM Lab

There is a phrase says, “SOUND MIND IS A SOUND BODY”. to promote our students with an creative idea on the rapid world, we promote our students with an updated software from preliminary to an execute stage. To initiate our students with an practical knowledge. We begin with an drafting software i.e.( AUTO CADD-version 2014 with an valid license no’s 125). To create an 3D view of machineries, our college has equipped with an updated version of Pro-E,solid works and CATIA.

Thermal Engineering Lab

Thermal Engineering is broad field of engineering that encompasses technologies dealing with heating and cooling systems, transfer of heat, fluid mechanics and Instruments that control temperature are essential in many areas, including the electric power industry; the automobile industry; and the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) industry.

Dynamics Lab

The laboratory comprises major equipments like Dynamic balancing machine, whirling of shaft apparatus, Universal governor, Motorized gyroscope, Cam analysis apparatus and Vibration Laboratory set-up.  The objective of conducting the practical classes in the laboratory is to develop skills to analyze the various forces acting on a Mechanical system and to identify the unbalanced forces and its effects such as vibration and its control.

Metrology and Measurements Lab

The Metrology laboratory at VCE is to provide the students with an active learning environment for the measurement technologies used in production engineering field. Students use the laboratory to collect and analyze measurement data, evaluate measurement methodologies, and learn the capabilities and limitations of measurement technologies. An autocollimator is an optical instrument that is used to measure small angles with very high sensitivity. We can also use autocollimator to verify the accuracy of a rotary table, comparison of work angle with standard angle block, verification straightness of movement along machined rails and determine flatness of surface plates. Tool Maker’s Microscope is used for measurement of parts of complex figure profiles of external threads, tool templates and gauges.

Mechatronics Lab

Mechatronics Lab is equipped with Hydraulic and Pneumatic Simulation Software it enables the user to design hydraulic and pneumatic circuits and to obtain both quantitative and qualitative results rapidly and accurately. Process Control Trainer (Flow/Temp/Pressure) The Pressure, Flow, Level, and Temperature Process Training Systems introduce students to a wide range of industrial processes, as well as to their instruments and control devices.
